Pajamas Size Chart (Men's & Women's Sleepwear Fit)

Pajamas are sized for comfort and movement, so they're usually cut relaxed and grouped S–XL. A two-piece set fits the top by chest and the bottoms by waist and hip — with a bit more ease than daywear.

    Notes

Comfort-size, but don't drown. Pajamas should feel relaxed, so buy true to size for a normal fit or one up if you like them loose. Going too big means bunching fabric and a waistband that won't stay up — roomy is good, oversized isn't.

The bottoms usually have an elastic waist. Most PJ bottoms have a drawcord or elastic waist, so the waist is forgiving and the hip becomes the key measurement. If your hips are fuller, size to the hip and cinch the waist.

Fabric shrinkage is common. Cotton and flannel pajamas often shrink a little on first wash. If a set isn't pre-shrunk, buy true to size and wash cool, or size up slightly if you tumble dry warm.

    FAQs

Should pajamas be tight or loose?

Loose and comfortable for movement and sleep — buy true to size for a normal relaxed fit or one size up if you prefer them roomy. Avoid going too large, which causes bunching and a waistband that slips.

How do I measure for pajamas?

Measure your chest or bust for the top and your waist and hip for the bottoms. Match the chest to the chart for the top; for the bottoms, use the hip since the elastic waist adjusts to a range.

Do pajamas run big or small?

Pajamas are generally cut generously for comfort, so they run true to size or slightly roomy. The main catch is cotton and flannel shrinkage, so check whether the fabric is pre-shrunk before sizing down.
