Polo Shirt Size Chart (Men's & Women's, With Measurements)

A polo sits between a t-shirt and a dress shirt, so its fit is driven mostly by chest measurement plus the collar and sleeve. Use the chart below to find your size by body measurement, then check how the specific brand runs.

    Notes

Measure your chest at the fullest point. Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of your chest, under the arms, keeping it level and snug but not tight. That number maps to the 'chest' column — polos are cut close, so pick the size your measurement falls inside rather than sizing up out of habit.

Decide slim vs classic first. Slim-fit polos take 1–2 inches out of the chest and waist; classic-fit polos are boxier. If you're between sizes or want a tucked, tailored look, slim-fit in your true size beats sizing down a classic cut.

Cotton piqué shrinks — account for it. Most polos are cotton piqué, which can shrink up to a size in a hot wash and dry. If a brand doesn't pre-shrink, buy true to size and wash cool, or size up slightly if you always tumble dry hot.

    FAQs

How do I measure for a polo shirt?

Measure your chest at its fullest point with a soft tape held level and snug, and match it to the 'to-fit chest' column. For a tucked look also check the garment length; polos vary more in length than tees.

Do polo shirts run small or large?

Classic-fit polos run true to size or slightly roomy, while slim and 'athletic' fits run about a size small through the chest and waist. Cotton piqué can also shrink, so check whether the brand pre-shrinks its fabric.

What's the difference between men's and women's polo sizing?

Men's polos are sized by chest (S–XXL as above). Women's polos are cut for the bust and waist and often use numeric or XS–XL sizing with a more tapered body, so use the brand's women's chart rather than the men's chest chart.
