How to Dress for a Long Torso
Long torso = body length is more than half your height. Goal: visually shorten torso + lengthen legs. High-rise pants, tucked tops, vertical leg lines.
The Chart
| Tactic | How | Why |
|---|---|---|
| High rise pants | 11-13" rise | Pulls visual waist higher |
| Tuck in tops | Always or French tuck | Defines waist higher |
| Cropped jackets | End at natural waist | Doesn't extend torso |
| Bootcut / wide-leg trousers | Adds leg length visually | Balances long torso |
| Belt at high waist | Cinch waistline | Marks where torso 'ends' |
FAQs
How do I know if I have a long torso?
Sit in a chair. If your seated height is taller than typical for your standing height, you likely have a long torso. Or measure: if your torso (shoulder to hip) is >50% of standing height, you're long-torso.
What about dresses?
Empire-waist (under bust) and high-waist styles are most flattering. Avoid drop-waist styles which extend torso visually.
