Tights Size Chart (By Height & Weight)

Tights and hosiery are unusual: they're sized by a combination of height and weight, not by dress size or waist alone. Getting both right is what stops tights sagging at the ankles or straining sheer at the thigh.

Tights Size Chart (height × weight)

    SizeHeightWeight
    A / S5'0"–5'4"95–125 lb
    B / M5'3"–5'7"120–155 lb
    C / L5'6"–5'10"150–185 lb
    D / XL5'8"–6'0"180–220 lb
    Q / Plus5'5"–6'0"200–260 lb

    Notes

Use both height and weight. Hosiery brands map size to a grid of height and weight. Find where your two measurements meet — if they point to different sizes, go by the larger, since tights that are too small run sheer, ladder, and slide down.

Height controls length, weight controls stretch. Your height decides whether the tights reach your waist without sagging; your weight decides whether the denier stretches evenly. That's why a tall, light person and a short, heavier person can wear different sizes at the same 'dress size.'

Denier is thickness, not size. Denier (e.g., 15 vs 80) is how opaque and thick the tights are, separate from size. Don't confuse a higher denier with a bigger size — pick your size from the grid, then choose denier for the look and warmth you want.

    FAQs

    How are tights sized?

By a combination of your height and weight on a grid (often labelled A/B/C/D or S/M/L/T), not by dress size. Find where your height and weight intersect; if they differ, choose the larger size to avoid sagging and sheer stress.

What size tights am I if I'm between sizes?

Size up. Tights that are slightly large stay comfortable and opaque, while tights that are too small slide down, run sheer at the thighs, and ladder more easily. The larger size almost always wears better.

What does denier mean on tights?

Denier measures the yarn's thickness and opacity — low denier (10–20) is sheer, high denier (40–80+) is opaque and warm. It's independent of size, so pick your size from the height/weight grid first, then choose denier separately.
