Why JP sizes run small?
Japanese baseline body measurements run smaller than European averages. JIS standard built around average Japanese body. Foreign brands selling in Japan often add a Japan-specific size mapping.
What about Japanese kimono / yukata?
Traditional Japanese garments have their own sizing (S, M, L, LL based on height + bust). Kimonos are mostly free-size with adjustment via the obi (sash). Yukata available in S-LL standard sizes.
