How Chinese Clothing Sizing Works (165/88A)

Chinese GB/T 1335 standard uses three-component sizing: height in cm / chest or bust in cm / body type letter (Y, A, B, C). Most precise system in widespread use.

    Notes

    Body type letters (calculated from chest minus waist drop): Y = lean (drop ≥17cm men, ≥19cm women). A = standard (12-17cm men, 14-18cm women). B = slightly fuller (7-11cm men, 9-13cm women). C = fullest (3-6cm men, 4-8cm women). 99% of off-the-rack labels are A.

    FAQs

How precise is Chinese sizing vs US?

Much more precise. Chinese label 170/92A specifies height + chest + body type. US 'M' specifies neither precisely. A 5'7" / 170cm Chinese shopper gets exact fit; a 'M' could fit anyone 5'5"-6'.

    Which letter for athletic body?

    Y. Y type assumes lean / muscular V-shape with high chest-waist drop. Western 'athletic fit' shirts and slim-cut suits map to Y in Chinese sizing.
