How to Measure for Adaptive Clothing

Measure in Real Wear Position
Position changes everything
Standing measurements don't apply to wheelchair users. Seated measurements don't apply to bedbound. Always measure in the wearer's actual dressing/wear position.
By Wear Position
Wheelchair user (seated all day)
Chest, seated waist (waist fold area), seated hip (pressed against seat back). Sleeve length over bent arm. Inseam from crotch (in seated position) to ankle.
Walker / mobility-aid user
Standing measurements work. Note any range-of-motion limitations on the arms or shoulders.
Bedbound / limited mobility
Lying measurements are most natural. Chest at fullest, waist at narrowest, hip at fullest from above. Sleeve in resting arm position.
Caregiver-dressed
Standard standing measurements work. Focus on closure preferences (magnetic, velcro, side-open) for ease of caregiver dressing.
