Hip Size Calculator: Measurement to Clothing Size

This hip size calculator measures from the right place: the fullest point of your seat, not your hip bone. Most people measure 2–3 inches too high — at the hip bone — and get a number 1–2 sizes smaller than reality. Enter your real hip measurement (tape parallel to the floor, around the widest part of the buttocks). Use the calculator below to get your exact fit in 30 seconds.

Only bust is required. Adding waist, hips, and height gives a more accurate result for fitted garments.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly is my hip for clothing measurement?

The fullest point of your seat — usually 7–9 inches below the natural waist, where the buttocks are widest. Not the hip bone.

Why does hip measurement matter for skirts and dresses?

Pencil and bodycon skirts size to the hip. A waist that fits but a hip that's too small means the garment won't go on.

Should I measure hip standing or sitting?

Standing, feet together. Sitting changes the hip dimension and isn't useful for clothing fit.

How does hip size convert to dress size?

    Hip 35–37" ≈ US 4–6 / UK 8–10. Hip 38–40" ≈ US 8–10 / UK 12–14. Hip 41–43" ≈ US 12–14 / UK 16–18.
