US to EU & EU to US Size Converter

Convert US sizes to EU — and EU back to US — in seconds. For women's clothing the relationship is roughly EU = US + 32, so a US 6 is about an EU 38 and a US 8 is an EU 40. Shoes and men's wear follow different rules, all charted below. Note the country twists: Italian sizes run about one number larger (IT = EU + 4), France uses T0–T5, and Spanish brands (Zara, Mango) often run small.

US to EU women's clothing: roughly add 32

For women's tops, dresses, and bottoms, the EU size is roughly your US size plus 32 — a US 4 is about an EU 36, a US 6 an EU 38, and a US 8 an EU 40. To go from EU back to US, subtract 32. Treat it as a starting point: European brands vary by about a size, so always sanity-check against the brand's own chart.

    EU sizing changes by country

'EU size' isn't perfectly uniform. Italian labels run about a number larger than the base EU number (IT = EU + 4), so an EU 38 shows as IT 42. France uses its own T0–T5 scale. Germany and Scandinavia stick to standard EU. Spanish high-street brands like Zara and Mango often run small even at standard EU numbers, so size up if you're between.

US to EU shoe sizes are a different scale

Shoes don't use the clothing formula — EU shoe sizes are based on foot length in millimetres. A US women's 8 is about an EU 38–39, and a US men's 9 is roughly EU 42.5. Because the scales don't share half-sizes cleanly, measure your foot length in mm and match that when a brand lists it.

Men's jeans: US waist to EU

Men's jeans in Europe are often labelled with an EU number rather than an inch waist. As a rule of thumb the EU jeans size is about your US inch waist plus 10 — a US W32 is roughly an EU 42–44. UK jeans, by contrast, use the same inch waist as the US, so a W32 stays a W32.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a US 6 in EU?

A US women's size 6 is about an EU 38. Women's clothing follows roughly EU = US + 32 (US 4 = EU 36, US 8 = EU 40), though brands vary by about a size and Italian labels run larger.

What is a US 8 in EU?

A US women's size 8 is about an EU 40 in clothing. A US 8 women's shoe is roughly an EU 38–39.

What is an EU 38 in US?

    An EU 38 is about a US 6 in women's clothing (EU − 32 = US). In shoes, an EU 38 is roughly a US 7.5 women's.

Is EU sizing the same across all European countries?

No. Italy runs about a number larger (IT = EU + 4). France uses T0–T5. Germany and Scandinavia use standard EU. Spain (Zara, Mango) often runs slightly small even at standard EU labels.

How do EU shoe sizes work?

EU shoes are based on foot length in millimetres. A US 9 women's is roughly EU 39–40; a US 9 men's is about EU 42.5. EU half-sizes don't always line up with US half-sizes, so check the mm length when you can.

Should I order one size up for Italian brands?

Often yes. Italian sizing runs tighter than the EU number suggests, especially in shoes and tailoring. Brands to watch include Ferragamo, Tod's, Bottega Veneta, and Brunello Cucinelli.
