What Does OS (One Size) Really Mean?

One Size doesn't fit everyone — it fits a 4-size range. Here's what range, and where it works versus where to avoid it.

    The Honest Definition

One Size = Fits 4 sizes, not all

OS / One Size typically fits US women's 0-12 (XS-L) or US men's S-XL. Outside that range = too tight or too loose. Always check the brand's actual measurement.

    What Categories Use OS

Hats / beanies / headbands: Stretchy enough to fit head 21-24 inches.
Scarves / shawls: Flat fabric, no fit limitation.
Loose dresses: Kaftans, kimonos, sack dresses. One pattern, body shape adapts.
Drawstring pants: Adjustable waist, fixed inseam — limits the range.
Bralettes / tube tops: Heavy stretch fabric, fits A-C cup typically.
Wrap garments: Robes, wrap dresses with adjustable tie.

    When to Avoid OS

Anything fitted: blazers, button-up shirts, tailored pants — never come in OS for good reason.
Plus-size body types: Standard OS caps at US 12. Look for 'Plus One Size' or sized garments.
Very petite frames: OS often hangs/drowns very small bodies. Petite-specific brands offer better fit.
Activewear: Performance gear needs precise fit; OS rarely works for athletic wear.
