Why Korean Sizes Run Smaller Than US

Korean sizes consistently run 1-2 sizes smaller than US. Two reasons: KS standard built around smaller Korean baseline body, AND K-fashion brands often cut even smaller for the youth-fashion aesthetic.

    Notes

Korean Standard for clothing was built around average Korean adult body in 1980s. Korean youth-fashion brands further trim sizing to align with the K-pop visual aesthetic of slim build. Average Korean female 5'4\" / 162cm; average US female 5'4\" / 162cm. Body height similar but proportional measurements (shoulder, bust, waist) often slimmer in Korean baselines.

    FAQs

Why does K-pop merch run so small?

Designed for K-pop fans aesthetic — fitted look. Brands target Korean teens/young adults whose average body matches Korean baselines. International fans often need 2-3 sizes up vs their US size.

Should I avoid Korean brands if curvy?

Not at all — but stick to brands with extended sizing (3XL+, Plus). Stylenanda's 'Free Size' won't work; their main line goes to L. Look for international shipping + sizing notes.
